The Glow: Crafting Care Alongside Craftsmanship

Every day when I step into the Tringhams factory, I’m reminded that we are not just in the business of making lampshades, we are in the business of making something much more meaningful. Our shades, as beautiful as they are, are only part of the story. The real heart of Tringhams is the people who craft them.

That’s why, for me, the wellbeing of our team is every bit as important as the craftsmanship of our lampshades. And it’s why we’ve recently welcomed an occupational therapist into our company, a decision that reflects our commitment to both the health of our employees and the excellence of our work.

The role of the occupational therapist is multi-faceted. They are here to assess the entire working environment, making sure that our factory floor supports not only the physical health of every team member but their mental wellbeing too. Whether it’s the layout of the workspace, the chairs we sit on, or providing access to wellbeing resources and support, every detail is considered. I find it fascinating, and humbling, to watch as our therapist moves through the space, noticing things that most of us wouldn’t think twice about, always with the goal of creating a safer, more comfortable environment.

But the work doesn’t stop there. Our occupational therapist also conducts one-to-one health assessments, offering personalised advice and support. This isn’t just about meeting the minimum requirements, it’s about going above and beyond showing each member of the team that their wellbeing truly matters. Every employee has their own needs, their own challenges, and their own story. Taking the time to listen, to understand, and to act on those needs is one of the most valuable things we can do.

I believe deeply that when people feel cared for, they bring their best selves to their work. And that shows in the lampshades we produce. There’s a quiet magic in watching someone completely absorbed in their craft, comfortable in their environment, and confident in their role. You can see it in the precision of each pleat, in the careful inspection of each join, and in the pride that shines through when a finished shade is boxed up, ready to begin its journey.

For me, this connection between care and craft is what makes Tringhams special. We are not just creating products. We are creating a workplace where people can thrive, and that spirit is woven into everything we make.

So, when you see one of our lampshades glowing softly in a living room, a hotel, or even a palace, know that its journey began in a place where people are valued, supported, and empowered to do their best work. That, to me, is the true light of artisan craftsmanship.
